On the runways, we saw this mostly in the form of clutches, with slouchy styles at Tod's and Balmain carried under the arm, but also in folded top-handle styles at Giorgio Armani and via a makeover of the classic tote and shoulder bag by Gabriella Hearst and Fendi, which for A/W 2025 are being offered up in supple suede and jumbo sizes. "It's not just adored Michelle Pfeiffer's Elvira Hancock in Scarface, Alexa Demie's Maddy in Euphoria or Kim Cattrall's Samantha Jones in Sex and The City—faux fur silhouettes have been labelled de rigueur by the designer set after years of being seen as taboo," says Who What Wear UK's SEO writer Ava Gilchrist. "But as the autumn/winter 2025 runways proved, fluffy garments will always be a symbol of a bygone era of bohemia and sophistication. "We all know that fashion tends to repeat itself, but I never thought I'd see (and absolutely love might I add) exaggerated shoulders on the autumn/winter 2025 runway," says Who What Wear UK's editorial assistant, Brittany Davy. "From billowy boho blouses at Chloé to sharp tailoring at Givenchy, every designer found a unique way to pay homage to this '80s trend, proving that you can bring a hint of power dressing to your outfit no matter the aesthetic. There's something about a coat that brushes the ankle that makes you feel like you've got your life together (even when it's far from the truth). A/W 2025 confirmed the return of the maxi coat in every sense of the word. Structured silhouettes with sweeping hems ruled the runways, with notable iterations at Victoria Beckham, Ferragamo and Max Mara.

"This season, outerwear took centre stage with a strong focus on proportions and in particular, lengths," confirms Barron. "At Stella McCartney, a standout camel coat wasn't just part of the outfit—it was the entire look."

"The overarching trend this season is a more form-fitting, structured silhouette that still maintains an oversized appeal," says Who What Wear UK's junior fashion editor Imani-Nia Francis-Tsolaki. "Chloé reimagines the maxi with a bold fur trim and puffed sleeves, while Ferragamo delivered a double-breasted intricately pinstriped moment that channels dandyism at its best and had my jaw on the floor." Think Dalmatian-spotted coats à la Jackie Kennedy from No.21, shearling at Zimmermann and sheer blouses at Saint Laurent."

Structure was also key here. "It's worth noting that strong silhouettes created by big, structured shoulders appear to be a micro-trend taking place within this one," they add. Velvet always has a moment around this time of year, but for A/W 2025, its comeback feels more compelling than ever. Rich jewel tones, luxe draping and ornate finishes gave it new meaning.

For 2025, this luxurious finish is working in tandem with deep hues of burgundy, forest green and navy, with a tactile flair that makes even our most classic buys feel brand new."

The French fashion house brought together its slew of A-list ambassadors, including Sophie Turner and Emma Stone, at L'Étoile du Nord, a "secret station" that once housed the headquarters of a 19th-century train company. The show venue is also conveniently located next door to one of Paris's main train stations, Gare du Nord, adding a touch of reality to Ghesquière's make-believe adventure. The recently renovated space, according to Louis Vuitton, "springs to life anew to tell a story about transportation and the compelling dual meaning contained in that word: adventure and enchantment."

The show space started out completely dark before a slew of different characters ascended a staircase, entering the runway as light filled the multistory venue. Music by electro group Kraftwerk rang out, and everyone in attendance turned their attention to the show's 61 total ensembles. Some had an '80s look to them, while others were sportier. New and old Louis Vuitton luggage was displayed alongside a mix of bohemian frocks and comfort-first sets, and one model was even carrying a luxurious throw (for mid-travel naps I presume). A Collection of Characters

If, upon taking in Louis Vuitton's F/W 25 collection as a whole, you don't see connections between each individual look, you're not alone. That's because Ghesquière wanted the models featured in his latest show to represent a collection of characters you'd find in a train station. Some are commuters coming and going from work, while others are traveling to a far-off destination, ready for a hike, business trip, or sporting event. "The concourse becomes the setting for a multitude of stylistic narratives," the show notes read.

Mr. Ghesquière's Girls

Louis Vuitton's show during Paris Fashion Week always provides us with best-in-class celebrity sightings, and this season was hardly the exception. At yesterday's show were musicians like Lisa and Haim as well as actors Saoirse Ronan, Sophie Turner, Ava DuVernay, Emma Stone, Phoebe Dynevor, and Who What Wear's August 2024 cover star Adria Arjona.

Luggage, Old and New

Luggage has always been an integral part of the house of Louis Vuitton, so it should come as no surprise that, in a travel-inspired collection, there would be an abundance of new and old luggage options for shoppers to choose from for fall 2025. Throughout the show, models carried a variety of bags perfect for jet-setting, including Louis Vuitton's beloved Keepall in new colorways as well as the brand-new L'Express, a more flexible version of the Keepall that's defined by soft colors and fine lines. A word to the wise: These bags are not meant to be checked, only to be tossed around a packed luggage compartment. I repeat, they are carry-ons only.

'80s Touches

Over the last few Louis Vuitton seasons, subtle references to 1980s fashion have popped up here and there, but for fall 2025, the era's influence was far more obvious in the prints, necklines, slouchy boots, and voluminous proportions. Belted waists contrasted with ruffled A-line skirts and chunky, printed knitwear, while patterned skirt suits with padded shoulders were worn alongside brightly colored handbags.

Although consumers will pick and choose from the vast ready-to-wear range and create looks unique to their style, some pieces have universal appeal, and a few of those surfaced quite clearly today during the Parisian fashion house's autumn/winter 2025 show.

Held in the grounds of the Jardin de Tuileries in central Paris, Dior transported show attendees (including Lily James, who looked impeccable in a black peplum top and cigarette pants) to a world of imagination; housed within a gigantic temporary box which in itself is always meta enough, we seemed to be taken a million miles away from reality with a set that featured ice caps rising through the floor, smoke cascading from the ceiling, a jurassic bird flying across the room… and much, much more.

We were led to this faraway land by creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri, who delved into the French-fashion history books to revitalise flounced-collar shirts, exaggerated cuffs, corsetry and—for the daring dressers out there—dandy-ish knee-length shorts worthy of a swashbuckle or two. As mesmerising and theatrical as the staging was, editors do not sleep on spotting trends or calculating the next big thing.

So, here are the items I saw in the collection that I think Dior's dedicated (and huge) fashion-girl following will be interested in next season.

J'Adore Dior Tees

Style Notes: A forever favourite from the brand, Dior's iconic J'Adore tee will never get old. This statement piece, which is now 25 years old, became a casual layering item instead of the main event, but it still managed to steal the limelight.

Pearl Chokers

Style Notes: So far, several A/W 25 shows have relied on necklaces as the primary jewellery piece. Dior followed suit by modernising the idea of a ruff rendered in peachy tones and trimmed with pearls—very cute.

Monk-Strap Flats

Style Notes: Fashion editors are always on the hunt for chic, comfortable flat shoes that can still have the polish and impact of a pair of heels. Fancy, high-shine monk-strap brogues like these definitely do the trick, especially when paired with pulled-up pop socks.

Pearl-Chain Bags

Style Notes: Dior's bags are always on the prettier, uptown-lady side of things, so it's a win to adorn some of its cherished styles with the addition of a dainty pearl strap.

Using distinctive House codes we all know and love in unexpected or amped-up ways, a slew of Milan’s most prominent fashion businesses leaned into their heritage aesthetics whilst offering something new and fresh. Just as I saw on the streets of Milano, the runways brought a refined yet offbeat attitude to the fashion vision for A/W 25.

Through peculiar colour palettes, strange silhouettes, fabrics that weren’t quite what they seemed, asymmetry and a mix-and-match approach to looking sophisticated, this autumnal line-up wasn’t all about classics and quiet luxury—rather finding a mid-ground between the artsy eclecticism and glamour this city exudes, as well as it’s smarter, pared-back alter ego. Perhaps I’m biased, but this is how I want to dress, and it’s why I say non-stop during MFW that I could see myself living there. People get dressed up on the daily, but they never look OTT.

Prada (by Raf Simons and Miuccia Prada) sent out an archetypal collection that led as the week’s most talked-about show. Challenging the audience to question what femininity looks like, this collection suggested a new type of glamour, free of the archaic tropes of the past. Instead, a kind of dishevelled, undone approach gives women the freedom to be more "throw-on-and-go" and less contrived in our overly curated, perfectly groomed, sculpted and "snatched" times—sweet relief.

Forever perfecting individuality, Marni’s Francesco Rizzo continued to wow the critics with an extravaganza of riotous colour, texture, shape and, ultimately, fun. Fendi celebrated its 100th anniversary, and despite its creative director remaining as-yet unfilled, Silvia Venturini Fendi provided a tour de force (tour de faux fur?) of Fendi glamour that perhaps only a family member entrenched in the business could really do justice.

Gucci, also without a creative director, showed a confident and daring collection that will undoubtedly see editors and fashion people clamouring to own anything with the brand’s signature horsebit. Ferragamo, Tod’s, Bally and Max Mara brought an abundance of classy looks and pieces to build out the most comprehensive capsule wardrobes. Sass wasn’t far behind with David Koma’s debut at Blumarine, Versace’s vibrant dig into the archive and Dolce & Gabbana’s "cool-girl" party frocks that models took outside of the showspace for a vibey street party.

Some trends particularly stood out to me as frontrunners for next season, so keep reading to see which MFW A/W 25 trends I predict will be big news.

"Mob Wife" Coats

Style Notes: Whichever manufacturer is supplying Milanese fashion houses with faux fur and shearling is heading for a very profitable A/W 25, by the looks of things. Faux fur was everywhere and on everything, from trimmed hemlines through to full-blown floor-sweeping coats, the latter of which seemed to reflect last year's TikTok trend for the "mob wife" aesthetic. These coats are nothing short of dramatic and entrance-making, and they were at almost every key designer brand from Fendi (which supplied numerous options as part of their 100th-anniversary celebrations) through to Ferragamo. Chicest in brown tones, I expect this trend to be one of next season's biggest.

Fringing

Style Notes: The trend for fringing started in London and continued with force during MFW. From ultra-swishy options rendered in long leather strands to fine beaded options or the subtlest tufted edging on knitwear, this trend comes in many guises, from minimalist to maximalist and understead to bohemian—meaning that brands with wildly different aesthetics (think Jil Sander vs. Etro) all agree—this is the detail to adopt.

Plum

Style Notes: Picking up where burgundy has left off, we've already seen plum shades coming to the fore on social media. Now, the colour trend has progressed from our feeds to the runways. A notable commitment at Max Mara, the show opened with a series of monochromatic plum looks instead of the brand's signature camel. Plum also popped up in other corners as an accent, as well as a main character.

Kick Hems

Style Notes: Skirts have been having a good run of late—2024 felt like the year of the skirt after a long period of tailored trousers ruling supreme. The focus on this silhouette has now translated into skirts and dresses with statement hemlines; the kind that swish, kick and bounce their way through life with godets, trims and extra fabric to make a point. It's like the clothing version of a sashay, and I couldn't help but fall in love with this niche but effective addition to many a collection, from Marni's sweeping midis to Amelia Gray wearing the hell out of a Roberto Cavalli peplum-hemmed LBD.

Brown Leather

Style Notes: Brown leather—particularly when finished with an aged or distressed look—was a constant fixture across the runways and presentations at MFW. It was Prada's worn-in, ruched skirt that lured me in first, but you'll find a commitment to brown leather across the gamut, from outerwear to leather goods like handbags, belts and shoes.

Knits on Knits

Style Notes: Comfort and elegance were best achieved through Milano's lineup of two and three-piece knitted sets. Often in ribbed finishes and autumnal hues, this felt like an ultra-luxe way to do cold-weather dressing, staying cosy without giving into the now-ubiquitous puffer coat. From Gucci's fluffy polo, which was styled with a slouchy cardigan, to Tod's marled and layered looks, this comes in many iterations from retro to preppy, bold to quiet.

Chartreuse

Style Notes: Should we blame Charli XCX for an influx of fashion's most affronting colour? Chartreuse and acid greens were surprisingly present for an A/W 25 season, providing an off-kilter base colour that many brands paired with brown or black to make it winter-appropriate. In Gucci's case, more was more, combining the electric hue with punchy purple.

"Possessed by the irreverent spirit of the House, archival memories—silhouettes, prints, materials—are cut up and repurposed into innovative manifestations," read the show notes. Indeed, last night's Versace show was about as Versace as they come. We're talking baroque prints, animalier, velvet, chainmail, dramatic outerwear, skin-tight tailoring and more (even the homeware pieces such as printed duvet covers were translated into fluffed-up puffer gowns), all in a 1980s-inspired colour palette of black set against deep purples, reds, yellows and... naturalmente, sparkle! As a Millennial who enjoys nothing more than a fashion flashback, some particularly nostalgic trends stood out on the dimly-lit runway staged in an old tram depot. And I'm sure that Versace's Gen Z front-row members like Ice Spice (or perhaps Lila Moss who took a turn on the runway) will appreciate how these confident looks can translate into red carpet, party or performance garms, reminiscent of the celebrities that shone before them.

Here, I chart the Versace autumn/winter 2025 show looks that tap into iconic throwback trends primed for a return.

1. Baroque Silk Shirts

Gianni Versace's signature look was a loose-fitting silk shirt emblazoned with the fashion house's instantly recognisable (and oft-copied) baroque prints in vibrant, contrasting colours.

They made a strong return for both men and women in the AW25 show, paired with everything from black trousers to ruched skirts, denim to leather pants. I expect to see a rise in searches for secondhand OG versions from early adopters of this comeback trend.

2. Chainmail Dresses

The chainmail dress is as Versace as things get for eveningwear, but where styles in the past have centered around handkerchief-style hems and draped cowl necks, next season's feel punky rendered in silver, sliced and diced together with other metallic fabrics and worn with studded bonnets. London Fashion Week's trend for armoury has continued in this city.

3. Velvet Leggings

Velvet has been a fixture throughout the shows in Milan but Versace is the brand that has dared to take it to the next level with '80s-inspired velvet leggings worn with tailored jackets that could well challenge the classic jeans-and-a-nice-top look as a Friday night outfit of choice for fashion girls.

4. Pouf Skirts

Skirts that bounce and skate as the models walk down the runway have proven to be a niche trend that has somehow arisen in almost every show during MFW. A coincidence? I think not.

Versace's have been the most dramatic of them all, with a range of options from classic puffball minis through to sculptural skater silhouettes.

To be a "Prada girl" is a unique and aspirational thing—she is cool and understated, always. She is knowing and she wears items together from collections that span the past few decades with ease and liberation. She is not shackled to trends of the here and now—she, in fact, unwittingly sets the trends and the tone for the season, and yet is never a slave to the pace of fashion's full-on cycle.

Today's autumn/winter 2025 show was a very solid lesson in the full spectrum of Prada-ness and I was delighted to witness it in person. It was austere in places, delightfully nerdy in others, unexpected (peeptoe loafer-moccasin knee-boot, anyone?), dishevelled 99.9% of the time and yet refined, dignified, and elegant in its own very special way. Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons delivered yet again on their interrogative vision of femininity and it couldn't be further from the loud, brash looks that generally tend to fill my feed or the streets of fashion month.

To put it plainly: Prada never fails. Anyone in fashion will tell you the same thing—where this brand starts to go, others will follow. So, after seeing the collection in person and taking a minute to pore over photos, these are the topline trends and pieces that will undoubtedly take off next season… and spark a thousand imitations. 1. Loafers and Loafer Boots

Style Notes: We’ve been living in the era of the loafer and now there’s a boot version that even comes with a peep toe. It's the hybrid we never knew we needed.

And should a knee-length style feel too challenging for you, have no fear: the traditional loafer styles (pictured above) will undoubtedly spark a shopping frenzy, as is traditional with excellent flats from Prada (and Miu Miu).

2. Furry Stoles

Style Notes: Chubby faux fur has been across a lot of runways (could this be a "mob wife" hangover in Milano?), but the collar trims and voluminous scarves from Prada provided all of the glam of the idea without being obvious thanks to their scrunched finish and deep brown tones.

3. Scuffed Up and Scruffy > Polished

Style Notes: You could argue that this look began with Miu Miu's 'frazzled Englishwoman' collection from AW23 but Miuccia Prada has been perfecting the art of undone for a long time.

From the purposefully scuffed-up pumps to the dishevelled hair, creased clothes with the ghosts of pleats or buttons past… this was classically Prada in how laid-back so much of the collection was.

4. Brown and Grey

Style Notes: Before brown became a highly trending colour, it was a signature move from Prada. These murky hues are a mainstay for the brand but rather than the current trending look of wearing them head-to-toe in tonal outfits, I enjoyed how they were combined together to great effect throughout the collection. The occasional jolt of pastel pink or acid green helped cut through the dark.

5. Statement Necklaces

Style Notes: Could it be true? After forever in fashion Siberia, they’re back! Officially, according to Prada! Many looks were adorned with oversized, crystal collars that the hair was tucked underneath of.

Combined with rimless glasses and no makeup-makeup, this was an accessory trend far removed from its previous incarnation back in the 2010s.

From a bold and theatrical opening at Harris Reed set against the grand backdrop of the Tate Britain, to a star-studded close from Burberry in the very same venue, autumn/winter 2025 will be the season that champions what makes London fashion quite so unique, and there was something for everyone in the mix of established fashion houses, new favourites and up-and-coming talent that showed across a jam-packed four days.

Despite a few noticeable absences in the schedule this year, London Fashion Week continues to do what it does best: bringing out the most experimental fashion crowds in droves to celebrate the country's best and brightest. Despite the gale-force weather, team Who What Wear UK turned out in full force to attend the shows in the name of trend research and capturing the best street style (big thanks is due to Volvo cars for making sure we stayed on schedule and the Andaz London Liverpool Street for being the perfect central base in the city).

So what, I hear you ask, were the notable moments that got our full attention?

Now that we've debriefed in the back of the car, gathered our notes and talked about the viral-worthy moments we loved, we've refined the looks from dozens of shows, presentations and events into a handy edit of seven trends that you need to see. Of course, there will be more to come in the form of our autumn/winter 2025 trend report once the whole of fashion month comes to a close, but for now, let's focus on the LFW trends to know before anyone else. You won't be disappointed by good old Blighty.

1. A WHITE WEDDING

Style Notes: As it turns out, you don't have to have a ring on your finger to buy into LFW's most unexpected trend. Designers were inspired by the regality of the modern bride this season, with full white dresses, bouquets and veils showing up at Bora Aksu, Connor Ives, Di Petsa, Edeline Lee and of course, Richard Quinn, who transformed his runway into a breathtaking winter setting, perfect for the demure bride.

You might be puzzled by how on earth this trend translates to everyday wear, but these are not dresses designed with the 9-to-5 in mind. Instead, the LWD (that's long white dress) just might be strong enough to replace the LBD for all of your formal and evening plans. And take note, 2025 and 2026 brides—we've also spotted some microtrends in the mix that will make your big moment even more memorable. Off-the-shoulder and retro necklines, white tights, big bows and rosettes were used time and again to create drama and points of interest in monochrome looks. Sorry, suiting—but 2025 is undoubtedly the year we say yes to the dress.

2. FRINGE BENEFITS

Style Notes: Nothing brings a collection to life quite like movement—be it a sweeping skirt, floating chiffon and tulle or a billowing sleeve—but it's fringing that really makes the wearer the centre of attention. Chunky straps, delicately beaded strands and streams of strings stood out amongst the sharp tailoring and angular silhouettes at Toga, Roksanda and Simone Rocha, a direct move away from what was a relatively pared-back spring/summer show of cotton maxis and trenches.

The usual signposts of a "party season" collection may be sequins and glitter, but in 2025, expect fringing to be front and centre as an elevated take on embellishment that looks as luxurious as it feels. The trend automatically lends itself to being dressed up (naturally), but you could also take cues from Burberry to help ground such a whimsical style with chunky boots and leather accessories.

3. PREP SCHOOL

Style Notes: For lessons in A* dressing, look no further than Kent & Curwen and Mithridate's approach to "prep school with polish": a mix of rugby stripes, knee-high socks and uniform staples that look impossibly chic when styled up with court shoes and Mary Janes. And, if the recent resurgence of cardigans, ties and pleated skirts tells us anything, it's that the collegiate aesthetic is perfectly timed to land this autumn, bringing new ways to wear the look. Boat shoes, anyone?

With Daniel Fletcher now at the helm of Mithridate, his debut collection conjured up the feeling of Oxbridge socials, Wimbledon and boat races— a loving tribute to all things British and a reworking of the wardrobe classics we've come to rely on. Think trench coats, Oxford shirts, Harrington jackets and a knit tied around the shoulders. Emilia Wickstead agrees, as leather skirts and collared knits were shown on the runway with a boot-meets-loafer hybrid that we predict will be very popular when released.

4. A KNIGHT'S TALE

Style Notes: The most-discussed guest on the Burberry front row this season? A fully kitted-out knight. Yes, you read that correctly, a mystery man dressed head-to-toe in a suit of armour spotted casually taking selfies with Nicholas Hoult and Jodie Turner-Smith might sound like a fever dream, but after the week of shows we'd already seen, it actually made perfect sense. Armour, chainmail, corsetry and heavy embellishments were core elements in the collections of Dreaming Eli, Dilara Findikoglu, Annie's Ibiza and Denzil Patrick—one trend we couldn't have predicted would cause such a stir on the runways.

As with every season, there were showpieces designed to convey the designer's creative inspiration as well as traditional ready-to-wear, but in the case of this medieval mood, there are ways to nod to the look without committing to an uncomfortable commute. Silver, beading, cinched waists and lace-up bodices all refer to the trend without being too literal, but don't be surprised if you spot a 2020 Tom Ford-esque breastplate moment on the red carpet over the next year or so. Once the A-list cottons on, it'll be a very good year for archival Mugler and Rabanne, too. Maid Marian, eat your heart out.

5. THE GREEN MACHINE

Style Notes: After a long-standing love affair with burgundy, plum and purple-rich tones, it's time to move on to the next secondary colour in the palette—green—for a vibrant alternative that pairs surprisingly well with just about every other shade in the spectrum. This could be the natural evolution of the lurid "Brat" green that was everywhere last year, but it's been a while since green in any of its forms got some time in the limelight (sorry).

The 2025 collections showcased green in apple, forest, sage, emerald and zesty lime across a number of shows—a sure sign that the reign of last year's chocolate brown may be nearing its end. As arresting as Erdem, Chet Lo and Burberry's head-to-toe green looks were, for those wary of colour-blocking such a bold shade, Emilia Wickstead's use of brown and grey, SS Daley's mix of gold and cream and Roksanda's all-black looks with bright green accessories help to break up the strong shade into something more accessible for the more subdued dresser. How's that for versatility?

6. CUFFS, COLLARS AND SLEEVES

Style Notes: It's difficult to improve on the classic white shirt for very good reason. In its simplicity, a good white button-down makes a great outfit foundation, and no matter how you switch up the colours, prints and cuts, you'll often find yourself looking for the most pared-back shirt to fill the gap in a well-curated wardrobe.

It's good news then that this season, designers decided not to stray too far from what we know and love, and have given us the white shirt 2.0—it's the same wardrobe classic, but with the volume turned up. Supersized lapels! Starched collars! Voluminous sleeves! From Toga's undone bow ties and brooches to Bora Aksu's ruffled cuffs, looking smart is back on the agenda and is as simple as one hero buy.

7. 24/7 PARTY GIRL

Style Notes: Who could have predicted that for A/W 25, so many designers would find their inspiration for party season—not in the party itself, but in what happens afterwards. Whilst the Ashish runway was strung with scattered party poppers and balloons that spelled out "walk of shame", and the models at Sinead Gorey walked haphazardly down the runway carrying bags of KFC and sporting smudged makeup, over at Connor Ives, the hostess with the mostess wore a headpiece fashioned out of discarded beer bottle caps—the ultimate make-do accessory.

As a season that celebrates the joy of dressing up and going out, expect a high/low mix in 2025. Whilst there are longline fur coats, plunging necklines and feathers, you can also expect to see slogan tees, leggings, and battered Converse high tops. This party girl has stayed out all night and made the very most of it, so shelve the killer platforms in favour of something a little more comfortable this year. Grunge is back (in a grown-up way), and this time, it's in a minidress, sheer tights and accompanied by a banging soundtrack.

For a week, each day was filled with talented emerging and established designers perfectly embodying the balance between the old and the new. Beyond the names above, there were rising stars like Fforme and TWP, who debuted their first and second collections during NYFW, and well-known label Calvin Klein, which reinvented itself and sparked a renewed sense of excitement. It was a dynamic fusion of nostalgia and modernism, where past influences met contemporary innovation and proved there's space for everyone in the ever-evolving fashion landscape.

Despite the diversity of designers on display, there were similarities in terms of key fashion trends. Fringe accents made a statement on the runways of Fforme, Bevza, and Altuzarra, while elegant brooches made a striking return at Tory Burch and Carolina Herrera. Wardrobe basics were reinterpreted through creative layering at Sandy Liang and Ashlyn, demonstrating that the most powerful looks sometimes result from styling familiar garments in unexpected ways. That's just the beginning—keep reading to discover the seven most important trends to know about now and for fall 2025.

Midi Skirt Suits

Style Notes: You don't have to look far to see that midi skirt suits dominated the NYC runways. From Kallmeyer to Calvin Klein and Tory Burch, designers showcased '80s-inspired skirt suits reimagined for the modern working woman. These pieces were updated with a minimalistic approach, focusing on clean lines, neutral tones, and understated elegance. The pairing of midi pencil skirts with collarless jackets provided a versatile and sophisticated option, perfectly embodying the chic vibe of NYC style.

Unlikely Layers

Style Notes: One thing is certain: The designers showcased innovative layering techniques that combined garments in unexpected ways. For instance, Sandy Liang paired a button-down shirt with a tie beneath a fur-trimmed fleece jacket, creating a striking contrast between formal and casual elements. Altuzarra featured a ruffled blouse under a short fur coat with the Peter Pan collar resting outside the jacket, which blended delicate and luxurious textures. Ashlyn styled a red turtleneck knit under a long-sleeve peplum top, merging vibrant color with a structured design. By combining garments in unconventional ways, these designers challenged traditional styling norms and made their ensembles look and feel dynamic, engaging, and intentional.

Cape Coats Continued

Style Notes: If you've been keeping up with Who What Wear's trend and celebrity style stories, you're likely aware that we widely covered the cape-coat trend in 2024. It appeared in Bottega Veneta's S/S 24 and Phoebe Philo's A1 collections, particularly in leather styles. Celebrities like Kendall Jenner and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley were also sporting the trend between L.A. and NYC. This season, designers are reinforcing the idea that this elegant outerwear is here to stay. Brands like Kallmeyer and Brandon Maxwell, among others, are looking to extend this chic style into 2025 with double-breasted long coats, short trench coats, and pullover styles.

Beautiful Brooches

Style Notes: Another trend gaining momentum is beautiful brooches pinned to dresses, sweaters, and outerwear. While the accessory made its mark in the fall/winter 2024 shows, it truly took center stage in the fall/winter 2025 collections, especially at Tory Burch, Carolina Herrera, and Bevza. Once considered a dated jewelry-box staple symbolizing old-world elegance, the brooch has been reimagined in innovative ways, from oversize jeweled designs to playful custom pieces. These eye-catching accents not only add a personal touch to any outfit but also offer a unique opportunity to showcase individuality and craftsmanship.

Subtle Statement Pieces

Style Notes: While loud luxury is gaining popularity, quiet luxury has not disappeared entirely. Designers at NYFW subtly indicated this shift by blending maximalism with minimalistic sensibilities, showcasing understated statement pieces that made an impact without being overwhelming. Style Notes: The fringe details at NYFW were far from the typical 1920s flapper style. Instead, they were elevated and effortless, had a luxurious look, and were paired with rich textures like silk and satin. One standout piece that caught my eye was Altuzarra's stunning shirred dress, which was as light as air and flowed gracefully with the model's movements. Fforme also showcased a collection featuring striking silk dresses adorned with fringe—a perfect piece for special after-dark occasions. Additionally, Bevza presented a black minidress with a woven braided hem, from which long, hairlike fringe details extended. For those intrigued by fringe fashion, the four pieces below provide an excellent introduction to this spirited style.

Dramatic Shearling Outerwear

Style Notes: Dramatic shearling coats made a striking impact on the runways this season in collections from designers such as Altuzarra, Khaite, and TWP. These remarkable outerwear pieces featured oversize, floor-grazing silhouettes that envelope the wearer in luxurious warmth. Crafted from sumptuous, rich textures and adorned with earthy tones reminiscent of fall's classic color palette, this coat style can serve as the eye-catching centerpiece of an ensemble and an inviting layer that adds depth to an outfit.

Nara Smith just gave us yet another reason to obsess over Chanel's patent leather flats. Spotted out recently in the glossy, logo-adorned flats, she styled them in the effortlessly cool way we've come to expect—pairing them with a sleek, tailored look that felt both modern and timeless. The best part? They're just as versatile as they are polished. We're already imagining them with slouchy jeans and a crisp button-down for an elevated everyday look or teamed with a pleated mini and socks for a preppy-meets-trendy vibe. Safe to say, they're officially on our wish list.

On the runway:

At the show, models were seen donning the formal footwear style in casual, effortless ways—with minidresses, denim sets, blazers turned sporty with layered hoodies, and more. Virginie Viard, Chanel's former creative director who designed the Resort 25 collection, described them as "scuba tuxedo" shoes to Vogue, and honestly, it's a perfect way to label them.

With resort collections now making their in-store debuts, fashion's top content creators are quickly acquiring pairs of their own and plastering the sophisticated slippers all over social media. Christie Tyler styled hers with a black suit, ivory socks, and a matching scarf top, photographing the look on the industrial streets of SoHo in New York. Norwegian creator Annabel Rosendahl photographed hers just out of the box. Those are just a couple of the sightings I've stumbled across so far this season, and more are surely on their way.

For the first Who What Wear US In Focus feature starring Madison Bailey, the Outer Banks star wore the luxurious slippers with a vibrant yellow knit cardigan-and-shorts set also from Chanel's Resort 25 collection. During one of my many recent deep dives into the 2025 runways, I've concluded that the year ahead will be particularly fruitful in the colour department. Coming off the back of 2024, a year in which quiet luxury hues like burgundy and butter yellow defined the trends, it makes sense that designers would continue keeping colour at the forefront.

But what stands out most this season is the artful way designers are pairing trending shades to create sophisticated yet modern palettes. From cherry red with dusty rose to sandy beige alongside chocolate brown, the combinations—a mixture of clashing and complementary couplings—feel fresh and inspiring. Below, find my eight favourite examples and shop the pieces you need to try them out for yourself.

8 Elegant Colour Combinations We'll See Everywhere in 2025:

1. Dusty Rose + Cherry Red

Style Notes: This ‘clashing’ combination makes perfect sense, given that dusty rose and cherry red are individually two of the biggest colour trends right now. Wear it in the form of a silky cami and skirt, or more subtly through accessories.

Style Notes: As we head towards the transitional season, light, fresh shades will start to take centre stage. Pale blue and khaki is an expensive-looking pairing that we're set to see more of in 2025.

Style Notes: Prefer to stick to neutrals? Terracotta is the red-tinted cousin of rusty orange that feels infinitely wearable, but it looks especially elevated with pure white. This is a combination we'll be backing all the way into summer 2025.

Style Notes: Chartreuse if a love-it-or-hate-it shade, but designers like Bally have landed firmly on the ‘love’ side of the fence. Paired with rich, chocolate brown, the result feels incredibly luxurious.

Style Notes: Blue and red have always worked in perfect harmony. Two classic colours are better than one, as proven by Stella McCartney in her S/S25 show.

8. Sand + Chocolate Brown

Style Notes: If you're colour-averse but trying to shift away from darker neutrals for the new year, this is the combination for you. Seriously, sandy beige and chocolate brown always look good together.

Take Loewe, for example. We had already seen grand structures grace the runways, but nothing like the radical hoop skirts Jonathan Anderson created for the Spanish fashion house. Dresses hovered in the air, defying gravity and providing an entirely new silhouette and aesthetic for next spring. Not only that, but highly sculptural pieces were crafted intricately out of the finest layers of the most unexpected materials including mother of pearl—yes, really.

Just like Loewe's billowing floral dresses, there was a lightness that ran through many of the Parisian collections. Pastel shades abounded, with baby pink and powder blue the most prominent. Ruffles, frills, chiffons and lace were ever-present, whilst Alessandro Michele's runway debut at Valentino put an official stamp on the return of frou-frou, much to the relief of many of the world's anti-quiet-luxury dressers.

On the flip side, there were more restrained or serious moments, with office-inspired attire making itself very known (Saint Laurent's collection was an ode to founder Yves and his signature look of a suit and thick-framed glasses), and sporty aesthetics dotted across collections (if Miu Miu's leggings don't spark a comeback, then I'll eat my Stella McCartney baseball cap).

I spent days decoding the runways (shoutout to Le Grand Hotel Cayré for giving me such a gorgeous base camp), so keep scrolling to see which trends I think will take off from the S/S 25 shows at Paris Fashion Week.

Walking Sculptures

From deconstructed hoop skirts to padded-out hips, I saw a slew of showstopping dresses with extra volume and structure baked in. Sometimes this was more daring and less "wearable", but I expect to see full-skirted styles hit the market in a strong way next spring.

Baby Pinks and Blues

Pretty pastels dominated the S/S 25 runways across every city, but in Paris, I was intrigued to see baby pink and powder blue on repeat. Take your pick or wear both, style them as a solo colour head-to-toe or try mixing in something unexpected for a clash (see Rochas's bright-red and pink combo).

Chintz Florals

In my many years as a fashion editor, I can confidently say that florals are always in spring/summer collections. They vary from year to year, and for 2025, it looks like it's less about disty or artsy florals and more about chintzy ones—the kind you'd find on old-fashioned wallpaper or soft furnishings in blousy prints or jacquards.

Graphic Tees

Just when you thought graphic tees were buried… they rise again! Expect to see a gamut of styles trending next spring, from those with cheeky motifs and large-scale prints through to subtly logo'd tees. Interestingly, they were most commonly worn with flirty skirts or layered under cute dresses—this is not a jeans-and-tee kind of moment.

Work Force

Suit up, look sharp! From Saint Laurent's series of tailored trouser suits worn with ties and opticals to Stella McCartney's newspaper-toting girls in oversized trench coats, there was a business feel to many collections—perfect for those looking to update their officewear next year.

The Great Drape

Goddess-like draped gowns, blouses and trousers offered something soft, romantic and classic in sophisticated hues. The vibe was bohemian yet elevated, grown-up yet never boring.

Frou Frou

Ruffles upon ruffles! Bows upon bows! Corsages! Hats! The high camp of frou-frou was plain to see across many of the most popular runway moments, with Valentino leading the charge thanks to Alessandro Michele's signature vision translating into his first runway collection for the brand. If excess is not your jam, look away now.

Sporting Goods

2024 may have been denoted as the summer that fashion really became obsessed with the world of sports (just how stylish were this year's Olympic contestants, please?), but it looks like the impact of technical gear continues to influence. From sports-inspired jackets (moto, anoraks, windbreakers, the lot) to hoodies, sliders and leggings, there's a sporting look out there for everyone.

Many of us view this movement as an ongoing trend, but quiet luxury has long been the cornerstone of Italian style. Glance at any of the locals (not on their way to the shows) and it's plain to see: they invest in high-quality goods that are classic and made to last. People accessorise and add personality to these elevated basics, but this will forever be a city full of chic, pulled-together outfits that simply don't date.

Some labels stand head and shoulders above the rest, having been purveyors of this kind of luxury for decades: Max Mara's clean lines and even cleaner palette, Tod's sophisticated workwear and Loro Piana's impeccable tailoring and knitwear all set the blueprint for a wardrobe with longevity.

That's not to say that trends weren't abundant—they were! The overarching theme? A lightness and sweetness that ran through many of the collections with featherlight fabrics (think chiffon, lace and gauzy organzas) and the most heavenly of colour palettes (washed-out pastels, neutrals and plenty of subtle whites and off-whites) were whipped up into flirty, slinky, billowing-in-the-wind kind of dresses. Tailoring came loose-fitting and elegant, whilst statement skirts played the main character, paired with more casual tops for that Milanese dressed-up-but-not-too-dressed-up aesthetic.

So, let's get into it. Here are the eight trends I noticed on the S/S 25 runways at Milan Fashion Week.

Soft Shades

Pistachio green, plaster pink, limoncello yellow… the colour palette across the majority of MFW shows was soft, sweet and undeniably summer-ready. Rendered often in semi-opaque chiffons, liquid satins or the finest silks, the colours were worn solo and together to great effect.

Art Scene

One of the most adventurous trends at MFW was the abundance of artwork splashed over clothes and accessories. From poster-style prints to blown-up photographs and classical paintings, there was a literal tapping into the world of visual arts to create a break from the standard prints we normally see return for the summer months, such as stripes or florals.

Parka and Party

None of the designers knew six months ago that Oasis would reunite for the most anticipated gigs of this decade, but there was something distinctly Brit-pop about the array of functional outerwear pieces combined with party looks—a parka with a sparkly dress seems like a perfect outfit to rely upon should you be fortunate enough to bag a ticket to see the Gallagher brothers.

White as a Sheet

Moschino's runway featured lines and lines of bright-white laundry pegged above editors, and it set the tone for a theme that was present across the city: white cotton poplin fabric was used to create sundresses, throw-on co-ords and laid-back tailoring, whilst white jersey came up in vests, tube dresses and more. If there's one thing to invest in for S/S 25, it's stain remover.

Freaky Florals

Florals for spring? Groundbreaking, I know! But hear me out: spring 2025's florals genuinely look quite strange, and all the more appealing for it. Whether scratched into paint to create a radical rose print, appliquéd for 3D texture or in strange colour combinations, it seems florals are far from classic for next year.

Flapper Girls

The omnipresence of Y2K and a return to bohemia this year meant I was surprised to see the 1920s influencing some designer collections. It wasn't a full-blown homage to the decadent era, but rather a subtle nod to the flapper dresses that women wore so freely during the time. Heavily beaded dresses (a decorative trend at both LFW and MFW) in loose silhouettes with dropped waists, this style of dress was modernised with no-makeup makeup and very few accessories.

Skirt + Polo

One pairing I saw time and again was a knee-grazing skirt with a knitted polo shirt. It has that kind of offbeat Milanese vibe of smartness combined with something unexpected, and I imagine it would make for a reliable and chic office outfit.

Animal Kingdom

If any one country would ascribe to the notion that animal prints are basically a neutral, it's Italy. Leopard print was across coats and shoes, whilst snake print turned up almost everywhere. This is one of those never-ending trends that boomerangs around every year—a wise investment.

1. X-RAY VISION

Style Notes: Guazy dresses, see-through shirts and transparent tailoring peppered runway collections for next summer. Domino Tan layered sheer blouses over minimalistic bras whilst OpéraSPORT went without. Appearing across a spattering of collections, the transparent fashion trend nods to the slow embrace of a more daring side of styling.

2. GREEN GODDESS

Style Notes: Praising nature's beauty by way of a fresh colour trend, khaki, olive and forest-green shades were key across the Copenhagen runways. Often styled from head to toe, green permeated collections—cementing the shade as a new-season staple.

3. A CASE FOR CAPRIS

Style Notes: There's no doubt about it; the capri pants trend is here to stay. Styled in a relaxed manner across several collections, Copenhagen has asserted that if they aren't already, capris will be in your wardrobe by summer 2025.

4. PUCKERED PERFECTION

Style Notes: Pretty pleats and ruching thrived on the runways at CPHFW, ushering in a new wave of romantic dressing. Indulging in volume and excess, the emerging trend shows us how the Scandi set has interpreted the return of boho.

5. SUMMER LEATHER

Style Notes: Unexpectedly, leather thrived in Copenhagen's spring/summer shows. Playing with shapes, Lovechild brought us a thigh-length jacket worn sans trousers, whilst Hundred let us know that brown leather is set to be big news next year.

6. RUNWAY OR RUN TRACK

Style Notes: This summer has been the season of sport, and the runways have picked up on our athletic leanings, dishing up a healthy serving of sports-inspired styling. Serving as inspiration for many CPHFW designers, the sportswear trend isn't slowing down any time soon.

Just when I thought H&M couldn't get any better, the Swedish fashion brand released a £35 version of the autumn runway trend that I can't seem to get out of my head. Mostly thanks to Chemena Kamali's debut collection for Chloé (which successfully managed to do what so many designers have tried and failed to do in revitalising and refreshing the boho trend), flouncy, ruffled, chiffon dresses have dominated the fashion scene as of late. Not only was the runway show a viral success, but Kamali's dresses continued to make headlines at the Met Gala when Sienna Miller, Zoe Saldaña, Greta Gerwig, and Emma Mackey all showed up in catwalk styles from the A/W 2024 collection. Finally, there was Daisy Edgar-Jones's Twisters press tour, which featured several bohemian Kamali originals, all of which the public ate right up. Clearly, the divisive aesthetic is back, and if you don't have thousands of dollars to invest in it, H&M is ready and willing to help.

On the runway:

This week, H&M released a handful of Woodstock-ready dresses, with one particularly buy-worthy style costing just £35 despite how pricey it looks. The dress, called the Flounced Chiffon Dress, comes in two colours (caramel and blue) and is completely sheer with long sleeves, a mid-calf hemline, and ties at the neck that you can either leave open or tie in a bow. The brand also released one more slightly dressier option in terracotta if that colour is more your style.

The pencil skirt's polar opposite, with a playful silhouette that cuts through the '90s and '00s noise to deliver full-blow '80s fun, the puffball skirt trend achieves a high volume, high drama look that Carrie Bradshaw would fawn over. Playing off the ra-ra and skater skirt silhouettes that came before it, spring's slew of puffball skirts and dresses flare out before folding under the hem, creating a puff-like finish. Often constructed from fabrics such as nylon, duchess satin and jersey—which better hold the voluminous shape—the skirt is cropping up in the form of everything from mini skirts to extra-long dresses this season.

Offering a fanciful retort to the pencil skirts and tailored styles that dominated across the last few months, the playful silhouette embraces the fun side of fashion. Whilst this isn't the first time we've celebrated this trend—the skirt was a popular staple throughout the '80s and across the '10s, the past few years' focus on "quiet luxury" makes the return of the puffball this time around feel entirely fresh.

Whilst at first glance you might have assumed the skirt was difficult to style, the breadth of options available across designer and high-street brands means that finding a style that feels wearable for you is easily achievable. Whether you're curious about the trend and interested in a fitted dress with a subtle flare, or keen to go for an ultra-mini, ultra-puffy style, there's an option out there to suit your preference.

Climbing the ranks on Google Trends more and more by the day, the influence is certainly being felt in real life, too, as people seem keen to back the skirt trend that practically promises fun-filled season of outfits.

Outside of the shows we saw a lot of what I'm going to affectionately refer to as "Gucci red" (sorry, "Valentino pink"), and if you thought the Milanese loved ballet flats as much as we do, think again (pointed-toe heels are the street style set's ride or die footwear). But what were the highlights on the runways? Well, designers were on the same page when it came to longer hemlines and clever layering (if you're looking for new workwear inspiration, simply Google "Bottega Veneta autumn/winter 2024"), but all showed different interpretations of what I'm calling "dressy minimalism"—translation: pared-back, anti-trend pieces that will live forever in your wardrobe. Or in the case of Dolce & Gabbana, Tom Ford and Gucci, the kind of underwear you probably already own but hadn't thought of putting on display. 1. Chic Cardigans

Style Notes: If this isn't proof that a three-piece knit is anything but old-fashioned, I don't know what is. Bravo, Ferragamo; you've elevated brown knitwear to cool new heights.

Nothing says "cardigans are a key piece" quite like Gucci showing a look that makes the knit the star of the show. Who needs trousers when your jumper looks this good?

Long gone are the pop culture motifs and wacky colours; a new era of Moschino has arrived. Don't mind me, I'm just mentally bookmarking this entire look for future reference.

2. Chocolate Brown

Style Notes: There's something inherently delicious about Alberta Feretti's Jaffa Cake colour palette, especially for autumn. Nothing lifts deep, cocoa browns quite like a bright pop of colour like orange.

If you're going to try a new colour trend, it might as well be head-to-toe brown. It's classy, expensive and always looks polished—Bottega's sweeping maxi dress is a case in point.

3. Underwear as Outerwear

Style Notes: If any brand is going to make lingerie a ready-to-wear trend, it's Dolce & Gabbana. The duo that gave us corsets, suspenders and lace is now presenting lighter, sheerer, "soft as a whisper" layers that wouldn't look out of place in bed.

Alberta Feretti just reminded me how versatile camisole tops and dresses really are. It's about time I had one of each in my wardrobe for myriad evening outfits.

If slips and lace aren't your thing, Tom Ford showed how clever cut-outs can create a nude illusion without actually having to bare it all.

4. Ladylike Lengths

Style Notes: Let's settle the dispute between mini and maxi skirts. The answer is to take the middle ground with the midi. The pencil skirt trend continues (as seen here at Bottega), and we're here for any trend that doesn't require us to bare our legs before the weather reaches at least 25ºC.

I love midi-length skirts and dresses with tall boots, and this double leather pairing from Fendi is on my outfit mood board for the end of the year.

Dressing like the cast of Mad Men was not high on our 2024 bingo list, but now we've seen it the Prada way, we're here for it (especially with these cute flats).

5. Sheer Delights

Style Notes: Blumarine is known for pushing the limits of ready-to-wear, so as much as this ethereal lace dress is absolutely stunning, it's also not likely to be the first thing you throw on in the morning. It does, however, remind us just how pretty a simple white slip dress can be, and sheer pieces like this can always be worn over a pair of floaty trousers to runway effect.

And here's how to wear sheer pieces according to Fendi. The first thing you buy after a sheer skirt should be a pair of opaque tights.

This level of "undressed dressing" could only be pulled off so elegantly by Sportmax. Everything from the corsetry to the delicate fabric is a walking work of art.

6. Cape Crusaders

Style Notes: Easy, elegant and understated, it's been a while since the cape had a moment in the sun, but the Milan runways have committed to the wrap around in a big, big way.

Let's return to Ferragamo to see how capes can be styled for the office, dinner and any occasion that requires this level of put-together polish.

7. Shaggy Coats

Style Notes: It might seem counterintuitive to discuss a cold-weather trend in the run-up to spring, but if this week's weather in the UK is anything to go by, we've got a little bit more time to dream about wearing Marni's arctic-ready faux-fur coat.

Unlike last year's ultra-fluffy longline furs and 2022's shearling teddy, 2024 is all about the shaggy, retro-style jacket that couldn't look any less like real fur if it tried. Think bright colours, exaggerated shapes and plenty of wild texture.

The bigger the better, and this loop-knit-esque coat from Jil Sander is truly unforgettable.

You'd typically find me gallivanting around Copenhagen this time of year, however, as I write this, I'm snuggled up in bed instead of attending the Danish capital city's fashion week. Talk about FOMO. That being said, I've been studiously following along from afar, taking notes on all the recurring themes on the runways. (And already planning my outfits for next season!) 

For starters, a quartet of brands were on the same page when it came to the best denim trend of the season. Munthe, Gestuz, Marimekko, and Helmstedt all showed different interpretations of what I'm simply calling "fun jeans." Take for example the trench coat you’ll dig out of your wardrobe whenever you need a light layer, the perfectly tailored trousers that go with every top in your rotation, or the flat shoes you can rely on for everyday wear. We all depend so much on these reliable staples that often they're not given their dues, but seeing as these wardrobe foundations really are the backbone of any well-curated capsule, it's time they had their turn in the limelight.

If you've scrolled through social media lately and felt like you've had enough of viral trends and meme-able looks, it's time for a palette cleanser. I’ve rounded up the pieces that I'm convinced will work the hardest in your 2024 wardrobe and beyond, and chances are, you'll already own at least one of them. No big red boots, no leg warmers and no low-slung jeans. You might spot these seven "anti-trend" buys enjoying a revival on the runways, but you certainly won't regret wearing them long into 2025 too.

1. BUILDABLE BASICS

Style Notes: It isn't hard to believe that a brand like The Row would start its journey with a mission to create the perfect white tee. Such is the power of a well-crafted basic; we've all hunted high and low for a T-shirt, tank top or long-sleeve to go under a jacket or throw on with jeans that does the job and looks smart whilst doing it. Those brightly coloured tops or printed blouses that shine on the hanger still have their moments, but they're often the first things to go in a wardrobe clear-out. Instead, we're shopping smarter, not harder in 2024, and stocking up on good layering pieces is always a wise investment.

2. TRUE BLUE

Style Notes: If there's one thing that we can all agree on, it's that finding the "perfect" pair of jeans comes with a lot of trial and error, but if there's another thing we can all agree on, it's that we rely on (at least) one pair of blue jeans. There's just something about a leg-lengthening pair of straight, mid-blue jeans that makes every outfit better. Getting ready in five minutes? It's jeans and a tee. Dressing up for the evening? There's a reason that the phrase "jeans and a nice top" is a part of our collective consciousness. Black denim might be its dressier sister and grey is having a moment, but if you're looking for a pair of jeans that will last for years to come, it has to be a true blue.

3. HAUTE HOISERY 

Style Notes: Tights, knee-highs and sensible socks; suddenly covering up has never been so chic, and fortunately for us this easy styling hack is as practical as it is polished. Until summer hits we'll likely be treated to everything the Great British weather has to throw at us, so instead of a bare-leg or a chilly sandal, why not add some opaque tights or wool socks? Controversial for some and a staple for others, it's the cheapest way to elevate a simple outfit to runway levels, especially when worn with boxy tailoring and a mid-length skirt.

4. GREAT LENGTHS 

Style Notes: Every once in a while the runway may try and have us believe that we're going to be enticed by the idea of boob-skimming cropped jackets, but when was the last time anyone ever wanted a coat that kept their shoulders warm but left their midriff exposed to the elements? Long, sweeping coats have been the fashion person's outerwear of choice ever since they first sashayed into stores, and no matter what you're wearing underneath, these statement coats are the whole outfit. Just ask Jennifer Lawrence, Katie Holmes and Alexa Chung.

5. THE LWD (LONG WHITE DRESS)

Style Notes: Sure, we're all familiar with the LBD, but now it's time to discuss what I am convinced is its far superior counterpart—the long white dress. Unlike a black mini, this chic number drifts effortlessly between day and nighttime wear, and as soon as the temperature rises it becomes a key player in our seasonal wardrobes. Okay, you might not be able to wear it to a wedding, but nothing quite beats the feeling of stepping into a clean, all-white, instant outfit (quiet-luxury, eat your heart out). Confident, commanding and comfortable in equal measures.

6. TOP OF THE POPS

Style Notes: Although we've technically declared top-handle bags an official handbag "trend" for 2024, you'll be seeing them everywhere for the foreseeable. Celebrities and street style stars are choosing these ladylike, polished bags over slouchy hobos and slung-on shoulder bags, and although no two top-handle styles are the same, there's something quaint about the sophisticated silhouette tucked under an arm or held elegantly at knee level. The best part? Some even come with a detachable chain so you can transform it into a functional crossbody at a moments notice.

7. BEGUILING BURGUNDY

Style Notes: And now to one of the most criminally underrated colours in the spectrum—rich burgundy. I use the term "rich" specifically to highlight just how expensive this colour makes everything look. Worn head-to-toe or even just as an accessory, this shade of deep merlot will take you to new heights of luxury (even if you haven't spent four figures). Whilst we all enjoyed Barbie pink for a summer and hot red throughout autumn, burgundy is one of the few colours you'll see in your wardrobe in a year and won't wonder, "What was I thinking?". In fact, you'll be happy to wear it time and again.

So, given the amount of new trends, buzzy aesthetics and talking points we've enjoyed over the last few months alone, what can we expect to see in 2024? I'm happy to tell you that I have your answer. Forget the flash-in-the-pan fads (leg warmers and pigeon bags, I'm looking at you), right now we're discussing the trending pieces causing a stir on socials that will actually go the distance. Some are old favourites, others are wholly unexpected but welcome new additions and all are undeniably good. So, keep scrolling to see nine hot buys about to become cult hits in 2024. It's time to prepare your wardrobe. 

1. SUEDE BAGS

Style Notes: What we predicted would be one of winter 2023's biggest accessory trends is carrying into spring 2024 too, and we couldn't be happier to invest in a practical and chic trend like the suede bag. With the release of The Row's Margaux tote in chocolate suede, this tactile bag was catapulted to new heights, and unlike tiny top handles or mini clutches, the bigger is the better when it comes to this elegant bag style, so its roomy enough to carry all of your essentials and then some.

2. TANK TOP DRESSES

Style Notes: The sunnier seasons deserve a new dress trend cool enough to replace the ditsy print midi, and we may have found it in the tank dress—a simple throw-on-and-go style that looks effortlessly elegant in almost any scenario. It makes sense then why we've seen so many suddenly spring up in high-street and premium stores, and whether you wear with them now with trainers and a leather jacket or in summer with flat sandals and a glorious tan, this is the kind of dress you're going to want in your arsenal over the next 12 months.

3. FAUX-FUR COATS

Style Notes: Okay, these might be better suited to the winter months rather than spring, but big, fluffy faux-fur coats made a return at the beginning of the year and we couldn't be happier at the thought of bundling up in these cloud-soft blankets again. We first noticed the trend cropping up on Instagram before the new-in sections of our favourite stores started to carry them, and now they're a style staple for celebs too. The trending coats in question? Neutral colours and vintage styles that look like they could have been handed down through generations.

4. RED TIGHTS

Style Notes: Who could have predicted that one of the year's biggest trends would be a pair of statement tights? Well, social media did, of course. Once we fell in love with bold red it was only a matter of time before it would extend to our accessories too, and what started as a head-to-toe-red runway trend evolved into pops of red in street style, which then became red socks, and now red tights, in even more shades than the original hot scarlet. For bonus points, match your tights to your shoes for an even more arresting take on the trend.

5. LOGOS

Style Notes: After staying true to quiet luxury for well over a year, it would seem that shoppers are heading back to styles that bear the original luxury stamp of approval: the logo. If you're still traumatised by the logomania of the noughties, I have good news. There's no need to pile on the prints; this time around there is a pared-back approach to designer dressing that is less of a shout and more of a luxurious whisper. These logos are the simple, clean and fuss-free way to tell everyone exactly what you're wearing.

6. POINTED-TOE SHOES

Style Notes: Ballet pumps had a good run, but this trend (likely an off-shoot of the popular slingback) means that we'll be making a pointed decision to return to dressier shoes in 2024. Whether heels or easy flats, the pointed toe has overtaken round and square as the most double-tapped shoe style of the last few months, gearing us up to wear the ladylike shoe style well into the next year too.

7. BOWS

Style Notes: Whether you follow the coquette, academia, regency, balletcore or even plazacore hashtags, a number of TikTok aesthetics have all made a hero of one key detail this year—the bow. This ode to hyper-femininity has been cropping up on shirts, shoes, in hair and on knitwear (particularly this party season) and reflects the surge in searches for softer, prettier pieces and accessories (most notably, ribbons) towards the end of 2023.

6. BALLOON JEANS

Style Notes: We traded skinnies for mom jeans, mom jeans for straight-leg, straight-leg for wide-leg; and now the wide-leg is making way for what can only be described as one of the most experimental denim cuts we've seen for decades. Balloon, barrel and horseshoe jeans are most notable for their supersized shape—nipping in at the waist, widening at the knee and tapering at the ankle—and socials are falling head over heels for this surprisingly flattering silhouette. The curved profile manages to work with every shape and size, and frankly, who can say they've felt comfortable in skinnies?

9. LONG LEATHER GLOVES

Style Notes: Keep elbow gloves on your radar, as although this incredibly chic piece has only started resurfacing recently, I have a feeling you're going to see a lot more of it in 2024. Wear with rolled-up sleeves to make the most of their wow factor and prepare for compliments. I asked six women with exceptional taste for their 2024 key buys (and added a couple of my own), and their answers will not disappoint. In fact, you can consider this a cheat's guide to the chicest trends about to take over the next 12 months. 2024 is already shaping up to be a good one.

"Our biggest predicted mood at NET-A-PORTER for the next season—'The Extraordinary Everyday'—does exactly what the title says; making everyday clothes extraordinary. This trend is almost a lifestyle rather than something that we see being limited to just a season. Within this trend, the essential items in our daily wardrobes are elevated to new heights of exceptional design and style. For example, the resurgence of flat shoes in 2023 (which I truly believe will extend itself to 2024) is a testament to [how casual fashion has become] over the past year. Our consumers have sought out special pieces that are both chic and comfortable, and that is exactly what [this] trend is about."

"Another trend we’re backing at NET-A-PORTER is 'The New New Romantics’, which places fashion, femininity and strength at the forefront. Organza, lace, intricate ruffles and 3D florals all came together to create a new, undone way of dressing that wasn’t overtly girly; instead, designers injected a modern refinement into these ethereal pieces. A pastel palette was integral to the mood, ranging from sugary-sweet lilacs to translucent pinks. Searches for pastel dresses have increased by +125% since fashion month, so we are backing this with the knowledge that it is something our customers will be looking for. What we love most about this trend is that it puts feel-good pieces first—and that is, after all, what fashion is all about."

"At Browns, we’re continuing to invest in the quiet-luxury trend, as we notice our customer on the lookout for expertly crafted pieces that can be worn season after season across all categories. Think rich, neutral colour palettes that play on textures and silhouettes. The Row’s Dhani coat is a great example of this; a classic, elevated piece with an interesting point of difference. We also noticed pops of colour against an overall neutral look, which we saw on and off the runway this past season. For example, bursts of red and pink featured in the collections of Tove, Rick Owens and more."

"Another trend for 2024 is the evolution of 'sexy dressing', as the edit at Browns transitions to subtle, sheer layers from the likes of Nensi Dojaka and Christopher Esber, compared to the bold, over-the-top partywear that previously dominated event dressing. We especially love this as it can be styled in so many ways, from chic and elegant to very playful."

"I adore 'grandpa' styling and many of the look's key pieces feel on trend for 2024. Button cardigans (thick or thin) are perfect for layering, and when worn with a plain white T-shirt, complete an outfit. Oversized tailored trousers can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion and are great all year round; suede clogs like the Birkenstock Boston are timeless and versatile (black is my current favourite as they pair so well with the pieces in my capsule wardrobe); and waistcoats will continue to be a strong trend for 2024. They are undeniably chic and make a good extra layer when needed."

THE TREND: BARRELS, BALLOONS AND PLENTY OF VOLUME

"When asked recently if skinny jeans were due a comeback, I was hesitant to say no (after all, fashion is subjective and there isn't anything easier to tuck into knee-high boots than an ultra-slim leg), but if there is one denim trend that everyone is talking about right now, it's undoubtedly voluminous jeans—barrel, balloon and horseshoe shapes. Narrow at the waist, widest at the knee and tapered at the ankle, the curved silhouette might seem strange, but trust me; once on, this contemporary shape makes perfect sense."

THE TREND: THE RETRO POWER PUMP

"Picture any '80s film lead playing the character of the corporate power player and you'll see shoulder pads, big hair and a pair of heeled pumps in black, white, navy, and maybe even red. They'd usually be in an almond toe shape and always with a wearable mid-heel, these pared-back heels are the surprising microtrend I've seen bubbling up to the surface over the past few months, especially when worn with tailoring and a pair of 15-denier tights. There's a lot to love about such a functional, versatile shoe, and the runways are inclined to agree—see Saint Laurent and Givenchy's S/S 24 shows for tips on how to make a 'vintage' shoe feel current."

THE TREND: THE LWD (LONG WHITE DRESS)

"Sorry, LBDs, but 2024 is the year that sheer gets an elegant makeover in the form of the long white dress. After seeing a resurgence of sheer fabrics during 2023's era of nostalgia and '90s dressing, in 2024, designers like Prada and Jil Sander are leaning into the fabric's romantic quality, crafting the transparent, floaty material into beautiful, ethereal pieces. Sheer midi skirts and white, almost translucent floor-length dresses have been particularly prominent, as well as understated blouses in pastel hues. The key to the trend is styling. Either go all-out romantic heroine and wear a gossamer piece with barely-there footwear and understated accessories, or layer key items with well-cut tailoring and denim."

THE TREND: PEACHY KEEN

"Peach Fuzz has recently been declared the colour of 2024 by Pantone, but designers were featuring the pastel hue long before the announcement was made a few weeks ago. On the S/S 24 runways, we saw plenty of iterations of the soft, delicate colour; often paired with floaty, airy fabrics like sheer taffeta, silk and satin, and we can expect to see the colour permeate through to high-street and designer collections alike throughout the year. I love a subtle, feel-good pop of colour, especially as we head into the spring season, and I'll be after peach pieces that will seamlessly blend into my wardrobe, like knitwear, blouses and accessories and that will go with dark-wash denim, white and chocolate brown tones."

Style Notes: At no point during the week did we forget that we were in Paris. The city's most stylish showed us exactly how the French earned their reputation as the world's chicest population; styling effortless, playful and je ne sais quoi-cool looks all weekend.

5. EVERY SHADE OF BROWN AND BEIGE

Style Notes: Whilst Londoners and New Yorkers are swapping out in their beige coats for all things grey, Parisians are sticking with warmer tones this season. Styling head-to-toe looks in all shades of beige and brown, the French fashion set confirmed their allegiance to warm neutrals.

6. THE CITY OF LIGHT

Style Notes: This Fashion Week, it was easy to understand why Paris is known as The City of Lights. Whilst the night sky was lit with dazzling street lights, the pavements were ablaze with shimmering showgoers. Favouring metallic finishes and sequinned embellishments, the crowd brought glistening glamour to the city's streets.

7. BIG BOOTS TO FILL

Style Notes: This trend might not be for everyone, but the bravest of the French style set stepped out in structural pairs of oversized black boots with dramatic square edges or big, slouchy folds.

On Victoria Beckham: Victoria Beckham Bonded Leather Biker Jacket (£1790), Victoria Beckham Layered Mask (£330) and Hermès Birkin bag.

Her monochrome look was accessorised with a black Hermès Birkin bag and black sunglasses, again from her own brand. Beckham took a leaf out the of the French-girl handbook and wore her hair down in loose waves for an undone, effortlessly chic finish that softened the feel of her black-on-black outfit. French women are known for their love of flared-trousers—I've spent years analysing French style and can conclude that '70s-inspired pieces feature heavily in many a Parisian's wardrobe—and this pair added further flair to Beckham's ensemble. 

The designer went for a low-key approach to dressing during fashion week, favouring luxe materials and high-quality design over trend-led items. Instead, she demonstrated her fashion prowess with a bold silhouette that managed not to look overdressed in the city with a famously less-is-more approach to style.

Off the back of previewing her S/S 24 Victoria Beckham collection, which featured wearable knits with dramatic collars, oversized clutch bags, sleeveless coats and expertly styled layers, Beckham's personal style proved to be an extension of the decidedly chic line-up she showcased over the weekend.
