While I practically live in my padded coat at this particular point in the season, I feel anything but elegant when I wear it. However, I've noticed that where once upon a time, A-listers would default to wearing the classic shearling boots and clogs with skinny jeans or leggings, an altogether a baggier denim silhouette has taken over.

Considering all of this, I can only imagine how disheartening it must be to navigate the ever-changing trend cycle as a petite person. But the dark early mornings make getting dressed feel more like a chore than a pleasure, and I've found myself falling into a rut of repeating the same outfits every day. In need of a little inspiration, I headed to Instagram to see how the style set is bringing a stylish edge to their cosy looks, and I immediately found the piece I know will revitalise my looks—a short-sleeved jumper.

Warm, refined and with an old-money feel that makes a simple jeans outfit look expensive, the short-sleeve jumper embraces one of my favourite aspects of winter dressing—texture—by emulating a simple T-shirt in a refined wool or cashmere composition. As you can see above, a short-sleeve jumper can look super polished when paired with tailoring, but it also rises to almost all occasions.

From figuring out the perfect Vinted search term to diving deep into ‘90s fashion archives, I'll rarely make a purchase without some research involved—something I feel like most Gen Zs can relate to.

My Gen Z mood for the month? Finding the perfect black wool coat this winter. It has been no small feat because my perfect black wool coat needs to tick multiple boxes to be exactly right. While on the hunt I had a few references in mind. It needed to give the same aloof vibe as the oversized wool coats worn by the Olsen twins (cigarette in hand on the streets of NYC) with a structured shoulder circa Kate McCallister's fabulous tan coat in Home Alone, or even Walter Hobbs double-breasted number in Elf. It also needed to be long—only a maxi coat would do.

Christmas movie references aside, I don’t have a The Row-friendly budget and I knew I wanted a ‘90s-feeling silhouette so I began to scan the second-hand offerings on Ebay and Vinted. Brands that came to mind were; Jaeger, Hobbs and M&S. I was checking ‘Oversized ‘90s Black Coat’ and ‘Jaeger Black Coat', ‘’90s Black Wool Coat’ ‘Men’s Black Wool Coat’ regularly and found some very nearly perfect pieces.

Despite my committed searching, I didn’t find my winter coat online (although I’ve linked a few of my favourite finds below!). But instead, in a cosmic twist of fashion fate, I stumbled across my perfect winter coat in a second-hand shop in Paris. She’s pre-loved, a men's fit, and not quite black but instead a charcoal grey I’ve found goes with my entire winter wardrobe. She also didn’t have the £3,650 price tag of my original inspiration from The Row but instead, came in at 45 euros. It took time to locate the style that felt worth purchasing, and I’m happy to say my research and patience paid off.

A common styling oversight that even the most fashion-conscious among us can fall victim to, all too often I see an elegant coat with the stitch on the vent of the coat left in place. You know the one—it’s that small "X" of stitching found at the base of the vent on just about all new coats and blazers. Designed to keep the garment's structure intact during shipping and display, this stitch is purely temporary and is meant to be removed before wearing. Yet, far too often, it gets overlooked or forgotten about, leading to a restricted silhouette that doesn't move the way it's supposed to.

Now I'm never normally one to preach fashion "rules", but from a practical standpoint, I do think that this one holds weight. A functional detail, the vent allows for ease of movement, breathability and comfort. Leaving the stitch intact not only impedes this function but can also make your coat look awkwardly stiff. While it's an easy mistake to make, leaving the stitch in place can significantly impact the overall elegance of an outfit, too, as those who spot it will find it hard to stop looking at it. So, while I'm not one to judge other's outfits or styling choices, I think that this is something that everyone should be aware of.

Thankfully, this is one of the easiest styling mistakes to correct. All you need is a pair of small scissors or a seam ripper. Gently snip the stitches and pull out the remnants, being careful not to tug or damage the fabric around them. Once removed, your coat will drape and move as it was designed to, and you'll instantly look more put-together in fashion eyes.

A simple way to ensure a polished winter look, if you notice that the telltale "X" is still in place, it’s time to set it free. Trust us, your coat—and your overall aesthetic—will thank you.

Eager to give myself the best fighting chance, this winter I'm paying special attention to my knitwear collection which, in all honestly, is looking a little tired after several years without much of an upgrade. Starting on the runway, this trend has slowly seeped into the collections of designer brands that set the fashion agenda. This season, Miu Miu, Prada and Burberry all stock elegant iterations of the knitwear trend, but I've also seen high-street brands such as Zara, Ganni and Marks & Spencer experiment with the trend this winter, too.

Perhaps it's the diamond design or maybe it's the cosy casing, but for me, this chic trend has an inherently festive energy that makes it feel so fitting for these early winter days.

1. Soft Chromatic Eyes

Chrome eyeshadow might sound complex, but trust us, it isn't—and if you do prefer a more subtle look, this is the kind you can adapt in intensity. According to Nguyen-Grealis, this is all about soft, colourful washes on the eyelids—think gentle pastels or shimmery chromatic shades that look slightly transparent.

"The look balances vibrancy with softness, like watercolors on the lids, creating a dreamy, ethereal effect and flexible for natural to glam looks," she says. "With a focus on playful, wearable colors, people are moving toward fun shades that remain subtle enough for everyday wear. This trend reflects an ongoing love for self-expression without overly bold statements. Looks that have a nod to Old Hollywood, the 1990s and the supermodel, mixed with effortless gen Z on TikTok."

How to Achieve It: "Start with a wash of a pastel or soft metallic shade across the lid, blending well to keep it diffused and seamless," says Nguyen Grealis. "Add shimmer or a metallic shift on top for added depth and luminosity. To lift the eyes deepen in socket but keep shimmer on the main centre of lid to keep them wide eyed."

2. Berry Lips

"Dark lips have always been a transitional season game changer and can amp up any look," says Parmar. "The dark berry colours are buildable and perfect for the festive season." When it comes to texture, she predicts that matte and satin finishes will dominate, but glossy lips will also make a comeback for an ultra-feminine touch.

How to Achieve It: "Try applying a dark lip liner to the lips with a smudge of lip balm to keep it fresh for daytime and a little more sheer. If you're feeling extra confident then line and fill the whole lip," she says.

3. Glossy Skin Finish

Think radiant, healthy-looking skin with a high-gloss finish that mimics hydrated, dewy skin. "This isn’t heavy glitter or metallics but rather a hyper-hydrated glow rather than plastic glass skin," explains Nguyen-Grealis. "It’s all about enhancing the natural beauty," she say.s

"With skinimalism still on the rise, glossy skin offers a natural, healthy radiance that’s achievable without multiple layers," she adds. "It aligns with the trend toward looking fresh-faced and embracing skin’s natural texture that’s youthful, effortless and not time consuming."

How to Achieve It: "Prep the skin with hydrating skincare, including a moisturiser and an illuminating primer. Use a lightweight foundation or tinted moisturizer, followed by a liquid highlighter on high points of the face. Add a touch of clear gloss on the cheekbones or temples for an extra-dewy effect"

4. Barely There Lips

Softly defined lips that look subtly enhanced rather than heavily lined or painted are majorly on trend, according to Nguyen-Grealis. "The colour is muted, slightly deeper than the natural lip, with a blurred edge and soft matte or satin finish."

"As bold lip colours take a backseat, more people are embracing 'my lips but better' shades that enhance without overpowering," she adds. "This trend aligns with the general shift towards soft, flattering, natural looks. It also ensures look bigger without and surgical filler."

How to Achieve It: "Use a lip liner close to your natural lip shade, applying it softly around the edges and then blending inward for a barely-there finish. Follow with a soft-matte or satin lipstick for a touch of colour. Use your fingers to smudge or a soft brush with concealer to soften the edges."

5. Metallic Finishes

"Getting ready for the party season always brings a return to glitz and glamour ," says Parmar. "Expect to see metallic colours everywhere from bronzes to silvers and golds."

How To Apply: "Wear as a wash over the eyes or as a graphic liner. Add a black or brown eyeliner and smudge to soften the look and then just add mascara," says Parmar.

6. Minimalist Graphic Liner

"A playful yet minimalist liner is a way to express creativity with minimal effort, allowing people to try something new without overhauling their whole look," says Nguyen-Grealis. "This trend plays into the digital makeup aesthetic, where eyeliner designs add a unique touch to everyday looks. Also, it can enhance and lift all eye shapes and give definition to eyes that need more drama." Think sleek, minimalist graphic liner in unexpected shapes or placements, such as a floating line above the crease or a tiny accent on the inner or outer corner.

How to Achieve It: "Use a liquid, cake or gel liner for precision," she advises. "Experiment with adding a simple line just above the crease or a tiny accent wing, keeping the rest of the eye minimal for a high-contrast effect. Start with a basic shape, then build up as desired. Use a kohl pencil to map in the shape that can easily be removed to avoid mistakes."

7. Sunburn Blush

It may be winter, but if you want to maintain a faux glow through the season, the sunburn blush trend is going nowhere. "This look mimics a naturally sun-kissed effect, with blush applied across the cheeks and nose bridge for a “just back from the beach” look," explains Nguyen-Grealis. ""It taps into the desire for natural, outdoorsy beauty. As people spend more time outdoors or embrace the outdoorsy aesthetic, this trend reflects a fresh, healthy, nature-inspired glow. It looks youthful but also adds colour to drained or tired skin."

How to Achieve It: "Apply a warm, peachy or coral blush across the cheeks, extending it to the nose bridge to create a natural, sun-kissed effect. Cream blushes work best for this as they blend seamlessly with the skin for a natural finish. Add powder blushes to ensure extra longevity."

8. Textured Brows

"Natural brows have been a focus for a few years, and 2025 is elevating this trend by adding dimension and texture," says Nguyen-Grealis. "This trend emphasises individual brow hairs, creating an effortlessly chic look that complements minimalist makeup."

How to Achieve It: "Use a clear or tinted brow gel to brush brows upward, creating volume and a feathered effect. For added definition, use a micro-tip pencil to mimic brow hairs in sparse areas," she says.

This season, the print is back with a vengeance, and from my people watching and Instagram stalking, I'm convinced it's the '90s leopard print aesthetic that fashion insiders are taking their inspiration from. The effortless minimalism of the era was made up of tailored trousers and crisp shirts, blue jeans and white t-shirts, but this one print got the minimalist seal of approval, with the likes of Gwyneth Paltrow, Jennifer Aniston and more adding leopard print accessories or outerwear to their stripped back looks.

The renewed popularity of leopard print means there are plenty of ways to integrate it into your wardrobe this season and well into 2025—from ballet flats to faux fur coats, evening dresses to figure-hugging trousers, there's a plethora of styles to explore from both high street and designer brands. Perhaps because minimalist looks and classic styles are particularly popular at the moment, this nostalgic print also happens to work perfectly with a number of other classic trends that never go out of style. Although burgundy is still very much a key colour trend this winter, over the past few weeks I've begun to see stylish types gravitate towards a more purply tone.

Just as expensive-looking as the other moody tones this season is being dominated by, plum is fast becoming the new berry shade of choice.

As with many darker colours, an outfit is made by the fabrics you choose to wear it in. I love this combination of liquid-like satin and hardy leather.

3. BROWN

Chocolate brown has emerged as 2024's favourite neutral, offering a warm, grounded alternative to black and grey.

Incredibly versatile, complementing other winter hues like burgundy, deep green, and ochre yellow, it's little wonder the shade is taking over the market and social media alike.

In my opinion, the deeper the hue, the more expensive it looks. Again, contrasting textures is the key to making an all-brown outfit look more dimensional and interesting but, really, you can't go too far wrong whichever pairing you opt for.

4. OLIVE

Another modern neutral, now that we've officially entered winter, olive clothing is starting to crop up everywhere I look.

One of the easiest ways to integrate it into your wardrobe is by way of a coat or jacket. With it's universally flattering hue, it goes with a surprising array of colours. Think beige, blue, pink, red (it's just muted enough not to draw festive connotations) and of course camel, brown, burgundy and grey.

Wear it with jeans for an everyday ensemble, or use olive separates like blazers to give your evening looks a colourful yet rich finish.

5. CREAM

I'm reluctant to call cream a "trend" but the sheer volume of cream looks that we're seeing this winter tells me it's very much a current thing.

While winter whites always make a comeback at this time in the year, they can sometimes feel too cold, especially when if it's a gloomy day. Warmer cream tones, however, feel much more elegant.

For me, there's nothing more refined looking than a cream coat. Use it to dress up your jeans and knitted dresses.

6. NAVY

Fashion analysts at @databutmakeitfashion say that searches for navy have surpassed black this season, and I believe it given the sheer amount of navy looks I've seen lately.

Needless to say, it pairs perfectly with denim, but it needn't all be blue—I like how this content creator has used it to give her grey jeans a fresh-looking spin.

And don't subscribe to the outdated fashion "rule" that you can't wear black and navy together. In fact, I think it makes for one of the chicest colour pairings.

7. MOLE

You might expect beige to appear on our list, and while it will always be considered a valuable player when it comes to winter's colour palette, this season, in contrast to grey, I'm seeing cooler mole tones come to the fore.

Just as wearable as warmer beiges and camels, mole is slightly knocked back in its vibrancy, which I think makes it even more versatile with other colours.

Instantly expensive-looking, wear it in dress form for a no-brainer outfit or integrate a tailored trouser into your wardrobe and pair it with your favourite knitwear and shirting.

It's the boldest colour on our list, but it's no less classic than the others. Bright, pillar box red coats considered timeless, so the fact that it's made a comeback alongside these hues is unsurprising.

Still, you needn't worry about it not making an impact. It's a colour that's standout and has the ability to instantly tell people that, yes, you are a fashion person.

Although many are wearing this tone from top-to-toe, it also pairs well with everything deemed a neutral. I'm particularly fond of the red and white look above.
